SCRA Coaching Director - Ryan Roberts
Originally from Christchurch playing Canterbury B in the NPC, SCRA Coaching Director Ryan Roberts moved to Australia in 2004. He quickly caught the eye of representative sectors, playing for Queensland in the Australia Shield in 2005.
Overseas offers came in and Ryan took full advantage of the “rugby passport” flying to Ireland, where his coaching career started to take shape. Living and working as a rugby coach in Ireland, Ryan developed a reputation as a coach to watch. He lived up to his building reputation in 2009, taking Navan to victory in the All Ireland Cup.
Australia lured him back to coach the Tuggeranong Vikings 1st Grade in 2014 where the Queensland Reds identified him as a key coach for future development opportunities, offering him a Development Officer role on the Gold Coast.
Ryan is currently coaching the Gold Coast Cyclones Under 19’s team as well as the Alleygators 1st Grade team. Ryan is highly qualified being an ARU Level 2 Accredited Coach, Certificate 4 Personal Trainer, HKC Kettle-bell Instructor and is also on the way to a Level 1 Zuu Training Instructor. Ryan has an incredibly dynamic and approachable coaching style, with the ability to command the attention and respect from both young children and highly trained adults.
His knowledge of Rugby Union is surpassed only by his approachable manner and genuine likeable nature.
